New year's eve, traditionally a night of drinking with chums - this year I went to a The Mandarin (the Chinese restaurant where Fred used to work as a waiter) for a gargantuan meal. There were many, many courses including crispy duck, beef and fried noodles in lettuce leaves, starters, mains, crackers... For the first time this Christmas I felt quite ill through overeating; I'd felt mildly nauseous after a range of large meals, but this was the first where I was near explosively charged with grub. Afterwards we went home and drank some beautiful cask strength Bruchladdich until we all went to bed - stomachs raging with satisfying indigestion.
